M. R. James On Reticence

Reticence may be an elderly doctrine to preach, yet from the artistic point of view I am sure it is a sound one. Reticence conduces to effect, blatancy ruins it.

In the Halloween edition of the Friday Link Pack I linked to a fantastic article that explored the influence M. R. James had on the work H. P. Lovecraft. Ever since that article I have been exploring Mr. James’ work, and this quote stuck out to me. I wanted to share.
